 blueberry pup cakes

Blue Berry Pupcakes

Ingredients:

½ cup ground dry dog food, use a mortar and pestle or a food processor to grind it up

1½ cups whole wheat flour,1 tablespoon baking powder, 2 tablespoons honey, 2 large eggs

1 cup low-fat milk, 6 oz light cream cheese & 1/3 cup fresh blueberries or frozen ones that have been thawed, washed, and drained.

Directions:

  • Preheat the oven to 175 degrees

  • Combine the ground dog food, flour, and baking powder in a medium bowl until thoroughly mixed.

  • Add honey, eggs, milk, and a cup of blueberries and mix until well combined. The batter should be slightly grainy.

  • Grease or line muffin cups with paper baking cups. Avoid using foil-baking cups. Paper ones are digestible in case your dog wolfs down the pupcake before you take the paper cups off. Bake until a cake tester or wooden skewer inserted in the centre comes out clean, 15-20 minutes.

  • Let the cupcakes cool on a cooling rack.

  • Whip cream cheese and 1/3 cup blueberries.

Dog frozen berry Treats

Frozen Fruit or Berry Treats

Ingredients:

500ml of plain Greek yogurt

1 ¼ tablespoon creamy peanut butter

1 medium over-ripe banana

1-2 tablespoons of water, if needed

Directions:

  • In your blender add your yogurt, peanut butter, and banana to your blender. Let it whiz up until mixed.

  • You want it to be the consistency of a loose milkshake. If you need to add a tablespoon or two of water, that's just fine.

  • Place your mold onto a cookie sheet to help transfer it to the freezer when full.

  • Fill your silicone molds.

  • Place into the freezer for 2 1/2 hours.

  • Pop them out of the molds and store them in a Ziploc bag

  • These will last frozen in the refrigerator for up to 3 months.

You can also substitute the peanut butter and banana for watermelon and low-fat vanilla yogurt or blueberries and Greek yogurt with 2 tbsp honey to make different flavored treats for your pooch. You can even just try freezing blueberries, bananas, or watermelon as a treat on its own.
